Pick a strategy and the colors you want to build with. You get the most played Commander cards for that plan, sorted into high-end, mid-range and budget tiers.

How the tiers work

Every strategy shows the cards Commander players run most often for that plan, split by price. High-end cards are the strongest versions of each effect and cost $20 or more. Mid-range picks do most of the same job for $3 to $20. Budget cards cost under $3 and are where most decks should start.

A good upgrade path is to fill every slot with a budget card first, then replace the cards you draw most often with mid-range or high-end versions. Your deck gets better at every step instead of waiting for one big purchase.

How to use the Staples Finder

  1. Pick the strategy your commander wants to do, such as tokens, +1/+1 counters, spellslinger or reanimation.
  2. Choose your commander’s colors. Only cards inside that color identity are shown.
  3. Compare the three tiers, add the cards that fit, then paste your list into the Deck Checker to make sure your land, ramp and draw counts still add up.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Commander staple?

A staple is a card that fits into a large share of decks in its colors because it does a job every deck needs: making mana, drawing cards or answering threats. Sol Ring, Arcane Signet and Swords to Plowshares are classic examples.

Should every deck run the high-end cards?

No. Many high-end staples are on the Game Changers list and push a deck into Bracket 3 or higher. If your group plays casual decks, the mid-range tier often gives you the same effect without changing the power level of the table.

Where do the prices come from?

Prices are market estimates from card data that refreshes daily. They move fast, so check the current price before you buy.
