How to goldfish a Commander deck
Goldfishing means playing your deck against an empty table. You learn how fast it sets up, whether you hit your land drops and how many turns it takes to win, without needing an opponent.
- Paste your list (or load a precon) and pick your commander.
- Press Start playing. Keep your seven or take a mulligan; the first one is free by default and extra cards go to the bottom, just like the London mulligan.
- Click cards in your hand to play them. Lands line up along the bottom, everything else above. Drag cards anywhere, click a permanent to tap it, and right-click (or press and hold on a phone) for counters, flipping, copying or moving it to another zone.
- Press Next turn to untap and draw. Track the damage you deal with the Goldfish life counter to see on which turn your deck would win.
Keyboard shortcuts
N next turn · D draw · U untap all · Ctrl+Z undo · Esc close menus.
What should I look for?
Count how often you miss a land drop before turn four, how often your commander comes down on curve, and the turn you would deal 40 damage. Play five to ten games; one game says little. If you stall a lot, run the list through the Deck Checker to see whether you are short on lands, ramp or card draw.
