Commander This Fall: Star Trek Precons, Mystery Booster Commander and More
Autumn is a busy time for Commander. Reality Fracture and six new precons have just landed, and more is on the way before the end of the year. Here’s what to watch.
Just released: Foundations Commander and Reality Fracture
On October 2, Wizards released Reality Fracture together with five mono-colored Foundations Commander decks. They’re aimed at newer players and are easy to upgrade:
- Calling All Angels (white), led by Giada, Font of Hope
- Keen Engineering (blue), led by Sai, Master Thopterist
- Wretched Ranks (black), led by Ghoulcaller Gisa
- Reign of Dragons (red), led by Lathliss, Dragon Queen
- Tramplesaurus Rex (green), led by Ghalta, Primal Hunger
Alongside them is the four-color Multiverse Reforged deck, led by Jace, Multiverse Architect and Nissa, Leyline Tamer. We’ve already written a Reign of Dragons upgrade guide and a Sai deck guide, and we picked out the best Reality Fracture cards for Commander.
Banned and restricted announcement
A banned and restricted announcement is scheduled for October 12. The last Commander update, at the time of writing, unbanned Biorhythm and added it and Farewell to the Game Changers list, while Lutri, the Spellchaser came off the banned list but remains banned as a companion. The Game Changers list currently holds 53 cards. We’ll update this post once the new announcement is out.
November: Star Trek
The Star Trek set releases on November 13, with prerelease events starting November 6. It comes with four three-color Commander decks:
- Federation Fleet (Jeskai): Starships and card draw
- Landing Party (Bant): landfall and away-team exploration
- Klingon Fury (Mardu): aggressive Warrior combat
- We Are the Borg (Esper): artifact creatures and assimilating your opponents’ creatures
Not every face commander has been officially confirmed yet. We’ll cover the decklists as soon as they’re revealed.
Mystery Booster: Commander Edition
Mystery Booster: Commander Edition, previously only available at convention events, is getting a wider release through a Secret Lair “Festival-in-a-Box” drop, with preorders opening October 19. Each 20-card booster includes cards in all five colors, a reprinted commander, a brand-new commander and a playtest card. It’s a pricey product, aimed mostly at collectors and players who love cracking packs.
Looking ahead to 2027
Next up is Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, scheduled for February 5, 2027. We’ll cover its Commander products when they’re announced.
Release dates come from announcements at the time of writing and can change. Check your local game store for availability.
