Star Trek Commander Precons: Everything We Know So Far
Magic’s Star Trek crossover lands on November 13, and it brings four Commander precons with it. Wizards hasn’t published the decklists yet, but the deck names, color pairs and broad themes are out. This page collects what we know, what is still a guess, and what to watch for before you preorder.
In short
- Four three-color decks: Federation Fleet (Jeskai), Landing Party (Bant), Klingon Fury (Mardu) and We Are the Borg (Esper).
- Prerelease events run November 6–12, MTG Arena gets the set on November 10, and the tabletop release is November 13.
- Full decklists usually appear a few weeks before release. We’ll publish an upgrade guide for every deck once they do.

The four decks
Federation Fleet (white-blue-red)
Federation Fleet is the Next Generation-era deck, and Jean-Luc Picard appears to lead it. The pitch is drawing cards and powering up starships, so expect plenty of Spacecraft and a value-first game plan rather than fast aggression. Jeskai decks like this usually reward players who enjoy holding up interaction and building a big turn.
Landing Party (green-white-blue)
Landing Party is built around the original series, with Spock pictured as its leader. Its theme is landfall: playing lands and sending an away team to explore. Green landfall decks are among the easiest to upgrade cheaply, because good extra-land-drop and land-fetching cards are plentiful and inexpensive.
Klingon Fury (red-white-black)
Klingon Fury is the combat deck, with Worf as the likely face. Teasers point at Warriors and at effects that hit the whole battlefield at once. If you like turning sideways and pressuring the table early, this is the one to watch. Mardu has historically been the hardest three-color combination to make consistent, so the mana base will matter.
We Are the Borg (white-blue-black)
The Borg Queen leads an artifact-creature deck. The Borg flavor of assimilating everything suggests effects that take or copy opponents’ creatures. Esper artifact decks tend to scale very well with upgrades, so this could end up the strongest of the four after a few changes.
Star Trek Commander cards revealed so far
These are the Commander cards previewed for the four decks so far. This gallery updates by itself as new cards are revealed, so check back during preview season.
New mechanics to know
- Dilemma: a keyworded take on modal spells. You pick a mode and face the “dilemma” of what you gave up, and some cards reward you for facing them.
- A Federation diversity bonus: some Federation cards get stronger for each different creature type you control. Borg creatures don’t count, which also stops Changelings from breaking it.
- Starships: not confirmed yet, but the Federation teaser about charging starships suggests Spacecraft, the card type you power up over several turns before it becomes a threat.
Which deck should you watch?
- New to Commander: Landing Party. Landfall is simple to play and easy to upgrade on a budget.
- You like big, grindy games: Federation Fleet.
- You want to attack: Klingon Fury.
- You like synergy engines: We Are the Borg.
Until the lists are public, treat all of this as a first look. Every deck comes with a foil face commander and tokens, and retailers also list a pricier Collector’s Edition of each deck in special foil. If you only care about playing, the regular version is the better buy.
What happens next
As soon as the decklists are out, we’ll publish a full upgrade guide for each deck, with $25, $50 and $100 swap lists and a one-click TCGplayer cart, like our other precon guides. In the meantime, see which precon to buy or check a list you already own with the free Deck Checker. Every upcoming release is on our precon release calendar.
